Media Release: TrainLink adds extra carriage to Armidale service

Wednesday, 12 February 2025

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has welcomed news that NSW TrainLink will add an extra carriage to its Armidale to Sydney service this weekend in response to the temporary closure of Armidale Airport.

This Saturday’s February 15 Xplorer service, and the returning Sunday, 16 February service from Sydney, will have an additional carriage with an expected increase in demand for transport services to and from Sydney.

“It is great to see NSW TrainLink stepping up to provide assistance to travellers who need to get to Sydney from Armidale,” Mr Moylan said.

“The unexpected closure of Armidale Airport disrupted travel plans for many people, so it is good to see an alternative provided.

“This is in addition to the extra flights Qantas have added to their Tamworth route and the buses Armidale Regional Council have provided to get travellers to and from Tamworth Airport.”

Armidale Airport closed earlier this week with Armidale Regional Council advising a failure of runway pavement occurring, making it unsafe for planes to operate.

Council has advised Armidale Airport will remain closed until Saturday, 15 February.
