Sapphire City Gymnasts have received a jump start for their club thanks to a grant to purchase a life-saving defibrillator device.
The club received a grant through the Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program, aimed at providing funds for clubs and recreation facilities around NSW to purchase Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
Mr Moylan met with club president Ashley Bonsor and head coach Debi to deliver the funding.
“Having a defibrillator available following cardiac arrest can be the difference between life and death,” he said.
“Congratulations to the Sapphire City Gymnastics club in being proactive in applying for a grant and being successful in securing a defibrillator. Let’s hope they never have to use it!”
The club’s head coach Debi Hankins was thankful for the funding said they can often have people of all ages taking part in or spectating at their competitions.
“It is just very handy to have a defibrillator accessible in case something goes wrong,” she said.
“We are located in the school hall so when we have competitions, it is peace of mind.”
Club president Ashley Bonsor said they have around 35 members whose extended family often come to club events so having a defibrillator on the premises eases everyone’s mind.
“We do presentation nights, we do club meets, and we have lots of family members who come and watch. They come in all ages,” she said.
“Having a defibrillator on-hand makes everyone feel a little bit safer and more comfortable.”
