Media Release: Funding secured for historic hall

Thursday, 19 June 2025

Wellingrove’s Memorial Hall is a source of pride for the small village north west of Glen Innes, and now it will receive a much-needed freshen up.

The hall’s memorial fence will be stripped and repainted to conserve it for future generations thanks to a grant from the Community War Memorials Fund.

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan said the hall is an important place for the community as it serves as a war memorial and a central place for the community to gather.

“The hall is nearly 100-years-old and holds the Wellingrove Honor Roll which lists the names of locals who served in the first and second World Wars,” Mr Moylan said.

“It is an important part of the village’s history and is a special place for the people of Wellingrove.

“It is excellent to see such a significant part of the community preserved and congratulations to the Wellingrove Progress Association for the continuous upkeep of the hall.”

Wellingrove Progress Association Incorporated secretary Kirrily Holder said having the hall revitalised is an important step as they prepare to mark its 100th anniversary in 2027.

“This grant will benefit so many people, not only now but for years to come,” she said.

“It gives people a place to be able to honour those that sacrificed so much for our independence and a renewed sense of community.

“It also provides a sense of pride within our community. The Memorials are owned by the Wellingrove Progress Association Incorporated which have donated many volunteer hours over the years in ensure the Memorials are kept in a way to show our respect for those who served. The facilities also provide a place for the community to gather and engage in today’s world.

“We are honoured to be a recipient of grant funding of Round 2 of the Community War Memorials Fund and thank all those involved to make this happen, as well as the volunteers over the years to keep this piece of history in such good condition.”
