MEMBER for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan MP has completed a busy two-week sitting period in State Parliament, speaking up and speaking out on many issues impacting his electorate.
Mr Moylan moved two Notices of Motion this week, one on nurses pay and the other on native vegetation mapping.
“I urged the Minns Labor Government to provide fairer and more appropriate salaries for nurses; while also urging them to leave the native vegetation mapping in draft form so that it is not given legal effect,” Mr Moylan said.
“I also used the sitting fortnight to deliver 21 Community Recognition Statements.
“Last week, I recognised the incredible contribution to our communities made by Inverell Girl Guides, Guyra Polocrosse, Glen Innes Arts Council, Lloyd Hornsby, Jayde Hames, St Philomena’s Catholic School, Armidale Athletics Club, Jane Sharman OAM, Barbara Woodham and Virginia Grey, Professor Yihong Du, Moree Plains Shire Council, and Bill and Jacqui Mitchell.
“This week, I recognised Archie Todd, James Payton, Uralla Shire Council, Riley Bartlett, Wendy Baldwin, Sandy Munro, Moree RSL Military Museum, Michelle Knott and Guyra Central School.”
Mr Moylan said he asked 17 Questions on Notice to Ministers in the sitting fortnight, using the opportunity to hold the Government to account on issues important to the Northern Tablelands.
“Each Minister now has 30 days to respond in writing to my questions,” he said.
“I have asked about patient transport vehicles and teacher vacancy rates in the Northern Tablelands, funding for the New England Highway just north of Armidale, the Armidale Urgent Care Service, the police holding yard in Guyra, whether the proposed ANZAC Day trading will impact the Moree Show, the Bingara Fire and Rescue Station, security of tenure and disability access for NECOM at the Old Teacher’s College and the Old Walcha Hospital site.
“I have also placed a question on the notice paper about the Glen Innes Hospital redevelopment, nurse vacancy rates, the proposed dam safety levy, the IV fluid shortage, flooding of private farmland from the Gwydir and Gingham water courses, the new Magistrate for the Inverell and Moree Circuit, and local contractors losing Government contracts to Sydney companies.”
Mr Moylan also put a formal question to the Minister representing the Minister for Water in Question Time, which is rare for a new MP and a sign of confidence by other parliamentarians.
“It has been an interesting and busy fortnight and I look forward to returning to the electorate tomorrow,” he said.
Mr Moylan said all his speeches are questions are publicly available in Hansard on the NSW Parliament website.
