After nearly 20 years since its last major redevelopment, Inverell Library will undergo a big overhaul with a $500,000 grant secured to modernise the current space.
Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan said the funding was obtained through the State Library of NSW Public Library Infrastructure Grants program which is aimed at helping councils improve the facilities at their local libraries.
“In 2027 it will have been 20 years since the Inverell Library underwent their last lot of major renovations which saw the space nearly double in size to what it is today,” Mr Moylan said.
“With thousands of people moving through the library space in that time, the facility is beginning to show signs of wear and tear and is in need of a big upgrade.
“It is fantastic to secure $500,000 to replace the existing metal shelving with a new style, replace the current tables and chairs, update the junior section and revamp the carpet.
“The renovations will ensure the library continues to be a place the Inverell community will enjoy for years to come.”
Manager library services Sonya Wilkins said it is exciting to be able to modernise the current space.
“We are a very busy library with more than 120,000 loans per year,” she said.
“It will be nice to freshen it up and I can’t wait to see the end result next year.”
