Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has congratulated Armidale Rams Junior Rugby League Football Club on its successful grant application to upgrade and repair its clubhouse.
The Rams have received $71,745 through the NSW Government Active Regional Communities Package.
The ageing clubhouse was built in 1969 and has since declined rapidly due to water damage in the roof and structure.
“The club themselves will be contributing $10,00 as well and that money will enable them to undergo some renovations to make it more useable for the upcoming season,” Mr Moylan said.
“It’s a great club and they do great work for our kids through Armidale and the New England.
“I’m really excited we’ve been able to get this money for them.”
Floorboards and external walls also need to be repaired for safety and security.
Mr Moylan said the clubhouse is also used for meetings and cultural events.
The proud not-for-profit club is run by volunteers who aim to remove barriers for players such as support in registration fees and equipment.
Armidale Rams Junior Rugby League’s Sam Jacobson said a new look clubhouse has been long overdue.
“Our clubhouse provides a great facility for community events, mental health needs, culture and sports across our community,” Mr Jacobson said.
“It means a lot to keep our clubhouse up and running and ensure that it’s for the community moving forward.
“This means a huge amount to our junior players and supporters in our community, as rugby league is massive in Armidale.”
The club has 200 players and run league tag teams in under 6s, junior girls, intermediate and senior girls, and rugby league for under 8s to under 16s.
