Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has congratulated Eric Noakes on a stellar career as Walcha Mayor.
Councillor Noakes stepped down from the role at today’s council meeting.
Mr Moylan said he was pleased Councillor Noakes will continue to serve the community as a councillor.
“Since September 2016, Walcha has been incredibly fortunate to have Eric Noakes as Mayor,” Mr Moylan said.
“Eric is one of the genuinely good people in public life. He is hardworking, honest and deeply committed to his community, I’m proud to call him a mate.”
Mr Moylan said Councillor Noakes’ wife Sheree has also been a champion for the Walcha community.
“I also want to acknowledge Sheree who has been by his side every step of the way. Over the past decade, they have helped guide Walcha through some extraordinary challenges, including drought, bushfires, floods, COVID, the renewable energy debate, the demolition derby disaster and even a tornado.
“Throughout it all, they have shown resilience, common sense and grace.
“Public service is not easy, and it often comes with sacrifices that aren’t seen by the wider community. Thank you, Eric and Sheree, for everything you’ve given to the community over the past 10 years.
“You’ve earned the respect and gratitude of so many people, including me.
“Well done mate.”
Mr Moylan looks forward to working with the new mayor, Councillor Hyde Thomson.
