The Uralla Memorial Literary Institute Inc will further pay tribute to their fallen soldiers with a new display thanks to funding secured from the Anzac Community Grants Program.
The Institute opened in 1927 to honour Uralla locals who fought in World War I.
Today the Institute displays electronic and visual tributes to those who have served Australia throughout history.
It is entirely volunteer-run and they rely on income from renters within the building.
The funding from the Anzac Community Grants Program will be used to provide additional electronic and easily updated displays including holographic and video displays.
Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan said the funding was important to continue to honour Uralla’s history.
“The Uralla Memorial Literary Institute Inc plays a significant part in preserving the memory of the local men and women who have served Australia throughout our history,” he said.
“The Institute’s hard-working group of volunteers do a tremendous job in maintaining the building and honouring Uralla’s servicemen and women.
“Well done to the Institute for securing funding through Anzac Community Grants Program and the tireless work they do.”
Chair of the Uralla Memorial Literary Institute, Max Schultz, said the facility is a vital part of the community.
“It is a registered war memorial, so it is a part of Uralla’s major history,” he said.
“We display the history of the people who served in war conflicts, particularly the ones who were born or lived in Uralla.
“The funding will go towards additional and interactive educational displays.
“This is especially good because it allows us to do more and people, particularly the young people, can come in and have a look.
“If they don’t know the history in town, this will be visual history they can learn from.”
The Uralla Memorial Literary Institute is open seven days a week from 8am until 5pm.
