Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has welcomed news that $4,249,093 will be invested in Rockvale Road at Aberfoyle.
The funding comes through the NSW Government’s Towards Zero Safer Roads campaign, aimed at delivering important road infrastructure at high-risk locations.
Mr Moylan said the cash injection has been allocated to Armidale Regional Council to improve safety with a road realignment and the installation of a roadside safety barrier.
“We know the risk of crashes are far greater on country roads than on urban roads with two-thirds of NSW road fatalities in regional and rural areas,” Mr Moylan said.
“I am elated to see this money come into our region to improve a dangerous section of Rockvale Road.
“All of us who live in the regions rely on country roads to connect us to services and economic centres, so it is very important the roads are in safe, working order.
“It is excellent to see the state government deliver this money to Armidale Regional Council to improve travel conditions for residents and road users in the area.”
The Rockvale Road funding is part of $45 million handed out in Round 2 of the NSW Government’s Towards Zero Safer Roads Program.
The Program is for local governments to increase road safety and work towards the targets of zero fatalities and serious injuries on NSW roads by 2025.
Last year 270 people were killed and 10,412 serious injuries on NSW roads.
Many of these crashes can be prevented with infrastructure upgrades.
“Country roads, like Rockvale Road, have roadside hazards such as trees and wildlife which increases the risks associated with driving on these roads,” Mr Moylan said.
“The installation of safety barriers will help separate traffic from these roadside hazards.”
