Media Release: Significant local heritage sites receive funding boost

Thursday, 3 July 2025

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has welcomed news that $100,000 has been secured for places or objects with significant local heritage.

Armidale Regional Council, Glen Innes Severn Council, Moree Plains Shire Council and Inverell Shire Council have each secured $25,000 as part of the 2025-27 Local Government Heritage Grants program.

The funding will help each council identify and protect places and stories significant to the local area and community.

Mr Moylan said a community’s heritage defines their character and it is important to preserve and protect it for future generations.

“Whether it is iconic landmarks or buildings, of sites of cultural significance, it is important our heritage is well looked after and maintained,” he said.

“Across the Northern Tablelands, there’s many diverse and important heritage places which tell the stories of our communities.

“These sites are often a drawcard for tourists and visitors to our towns.

“Projects eligible for these grants include heritage consultant and advisor fees, development and production of interpretation materials, heritage training for council staff and the local community, conversation works and many more heritage-related projects.

“These grants will ensure local councils have the ability to manage, conserve, promote and celebrate heritage sites for more people to enjoy.”

The projects in each council area will be carried out and completed by 1 May 2027.
