Media Release: Premier visits BackTrack in Armidale

Friday, 7 November 2025

Since stepping into Parliament in 2024, Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has been urging NSW Premier Chris Minns to pay BackTrack a visit to witness first-hand the fantastic work they do.

On Friday afternoon, the BackTrack team and Mr Moylan welcomed the Premier to the BackTrack depot in Armidale.

The Premier met with BackTrack founder Bernie Shakeshaft, chief executive officer Marcus Watson and some of the current participants and past individuals who have gone through the program successfully.

“Statistics don’t lie – BackTrack has an extraordinary history in helping at-risk young people get their lives back on track by equipping them with essential life and work skills,” Mr Moylan said.

“Bernie, Marcus and their crew of volunteers have had a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of young people over the last two decades.

“Since being elected as the Member for Northern Tablelands in 2024, I have been pushing the NSW Government for more support for BackTrack and their numerous programs.

“It is excellent to see Premier Chris Minns venture to Armidale to see and hear first-hand accounts of how BackTrack can better the lives of young people and the wider community.

“I am pleased the Premier has now seen first-hand the great work BackTrack do in our New England communities.”
