Wednesday, 23 October 2024

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has offered a warm welcome to Moree and Inverell’s new Magistrate, His Honour John Arms.
Magistrate Arms has been appointed to the Moree-Inverell Local Court circuit, which includes the communities of Mungindi and Boggabilla, for a period of 18 months.
Magistrate Arms will replace Her Honour Catherine Samuels who will return to the Sydney metropolitan area.
Mr Moylan thanked Magistrate Samuels for her time and effort in the area and applauded the appointment of Magistrate Arms.
“Having worked for twenty years as a solicitor I understand the importance of courts and the judiciary,” Mr Moylan said.
“Magistrate Arms comes to the Moree and Inverell areas with a wealth of knowledge and success in his legal career.
Magistrate Arms began his legal career in 1983 in the then Magistrates Courts Administration unit in the Department of Attorney General and Justice before serving as a clerk at various local courts.
He was appointed as Registrar of Gosford in 1998 where he served until 2017 where he took up private practice, working in both prosecution and defence.
Magistrate Arms was sworn in to the NSW Local Court in February of 2023.
It is expected Magistrate Arms will reside in the Inverell-Moree area during his tenure.
He will be joined by His Honour Acting Magistrate Malcolm MacPherson who has been appointed as a temporary “floating Magistrate” for six months.
