Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan is encouraging residents across the Northern Tablelands to throw their support behind the community of Walcha in their bid to stop EnergyCo destroying their homes and livelihoods.
More than 100 Walcha farmers, led by Anna Young, have banded together to put forward a Parliamentary ePetition to stop EnergyCo’s new transmission line corridor from being built on their land.
Mr Moylan is sponsoring the ePetition which rejects the new route through the Hunter, Upper Hunter and New England.
“The way the new transmission corridor has been rolled out is a disgrace,” Mr Moylan said.
“EnergyCo failed to properly engage with landowners, communities and leaders when planning this new transmission corridor route. It is a complete mess.
“12 months ago, the Minns Labor Government spent millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money studying this path to find it did not meet five of the six essential requirements.
“Now they’re bullying farmers into giving up prime agricultural land and, in some cases, their homes for this path which was previously deemed unsuitable.
“The Parliamentary ePetition calls on the government to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new solution which does not impact landholders.
“We need 20,000 signatures for the ePetition to be debated in Parliament and I strongly urge everyone to get behind it.”
