Media Release: Farmers urged to have their say on proposed changes to Land Management Codes

Wednesday, 16 July 2025

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan is encouraging farmers and landholders to make a submission on proposed amendments to the Land Management (Native Vegetation) Code 2018.

The Land Management Codes were implemented in 2018 to allow landholders to have greater flexibility to manage native vegetation, in particular invasive native species on their properties.

The codes allow for landholders to work collaboratively with Local Land Services to achieve targeted and localised outcomes that benefit both agricultural production and the environment.

The Minns Labor Government has undertaken a review into the operation of the land use codes and is now proposing changes to those codes.

Mr Moylan said the proposed amendments reduce the ability of landholders to manage invasive native species on their property.

“The codes aren’t perfect, but they have allowed farmers to work with the LLS to achieve mutually favourable results,” he said.

“The best thing the government could do is leave these codes alone.

“I encourage all farmers to review the slated changes and make a submission.”

The discussion paper can be viewed here.

There are two ways to make a submission:

  • Email- consultation@lls.nsw.gov.au
  • Post – Land Management (Native Vegetation) Code Amendment Order 2025 Discussion Paper, Local Land Services – Policy Division, PO Box 411, Inverell, NSW 2360.

Submissions close 1 August.
