Media Release: Dutton Trout Hatchery re-opened to the public

Tuesday, 8 July 2025

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has been officially advised the LP Dutton Trout Hatchery at Ebor has been re-opened to the public.

The facility has been closed to visitors since late 2024 and Mr Moylan has previously made campaigned to have it re-opened through numerous requests to Minister for Agriculture Tara Moriarty.

The trout hatchery has a long history of tourist and community visits for education and fish feeding.

The closure of the facility had an enormous impact on the small community of Ebor.

Mr Moylan said re-opening the trout hatchery is great news for the town.

“Our small communities, like Ebor, rely on foot traffic from tourist attractions so they can continue to thrive,” he said.

“Since the closure of the LP Dutton Trout Hatchery, Ebor’s pub, accommodation facilities, and other attractions saw a drop in the number of visitors.

“I took the concerns of the community to Parliament and fought hard for its re-opening.

“I am thankful the NSW Government has listened and re-opened the trout hatchery to the public.

“It is a fantastic facility where visitors can learn about aquaculture and the vital role it plays in fish restocking, conservation research, and recreational fishing across NSW.

“I hope there will now be a steady stream of visitors going through the trout hatchery and enjoying a self-guided tour and use the on-site free picnic facilities.”

The LP Dutton Trout Hatchery is located at 336 Point Lookout Road, Ebor, and is open seven days a week for visitors from 9am to 3pm
