Media Release: Celebrating small businesses in local communities

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has put small businesses in the spotlight by delivering a Notice of Motion in NSW Parliament.

October is NSW Small Business Month, a program aimed at providing small businesses across the state with opportunities to network, develop skills and gain knowledge through online and face-to-face events.

Speaking in front of Parliament on Thursday, Mr Moylan highlighted the import role small businesses have in the NSW economy.

“There are approximately 850,000 small businesses in NSW which comprises approximately 97 per cent of all NSW business,” he said.

“NSW small businesses employs approximately 1.8 million people.”

There are hundreds of small businesses across the Northern Tablelands.

Throughout October, Mr Moylan has visited a number of those businesses to acknowledge their contributions to their communities.

“Small businesses are more than just entities in enterprise; they are the heart of our communities, providing jobs, services and unique local character,” Mr Moylan said.

“Having been a small business owner myself, I understand some of the challenges they face in the current economic climate.

“I commend small business owners across the Northern Tablelands for the services they provide the community.

“I encourage people across the region to continue supporting small local businesses.

“Christmas is only just around the corner so now is the perfect time to shop local!”
