Media Release: Ascent Group receives amenities boost thanks to $209,990 grant

Friday, 8 November 2024

Ascent Group’s Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE) new amenities have been made much safer a $209,990 grant to remove asbestos from the site.

The disability support service had received $219,000 in 2021 to refurbish the amenities but, upon commencement of work, the site was revealed to be full of asbestos.

Thanks to the latest grant from the Crown Reserve Improvement Fund, the asbestos was able to be removed and works progressed to provide safe and accessible amenities for all the Ascent Group’s workers and visitors.

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan visited the site to deliver the funding and inspect the facilities.

“The Ascent Group does an excellent job in providing support and employment for people with disabilities across the region,” he said.

“The previous amenities were not up to standard for a large portion of workers and visitors to the organisation.

“The funding has enabled the Ascent Group to complete the upgrades and provide everyone who uses the site with accessible and safe facilities.”

Ascent Group’s chief executive officer Peter Westbrook said the renovations will also enable the organisation to bring more activities and services to the site.

“It means we can use the site more relevantly, given the old provisions were not to code in terms of disabled access,” Mr Westbrook said.

“They were almost falling down internally as well.

“I think it is just great that we have got the Crown Reserve Trust which has been designated to this organisation’s purpose.

“It has been really good support, and we really appreciate it.”
