Media Release: A cool change for new childcare centre

Wednesday, 1 October 2025

The Mungindi Community Education Association’s new childcare centre has a cool new addition to their playground.

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan delivered $21,384 in funding from the Community Building Partnership program to construct a brand-new shelter to provide shade for outdoor activities.

Mr Moylan said the childcare centre opened this year and adding a shaded area was essential, particularly with Mungindi’s hot climate.

“The addition of a childcare centre was welcomed by the Mungindi community,” Mr Moylan said.

“We know temperatures can soar, particularly in the summer months. Having a shaded area will allow the kids to get outside and play in a safe environment all year round. I am pleased to deliver this funding as part of the Community Building Partnership program so both kids and staff at the Mungindi’s childcare have a safe environment to use when outdoors.”

Mungindi Community Education Association president Lisa Orchin said having a shaded area was a requirement of opening the childcare centre but they would not have been able to install it without the grant from the Community Building Partnership program.

“The grant has meant that our children are sun safe and our community is serviced by this wonderful daycare,” she said.

“Our whole district is affected in one way or another by childcare – the nurse that helps you at the hospital, the teachers teaching our children, the police that are keeping our community safe, assistants in shops and the office managers that are ensuring accounts are paid on time. They are all people who are using the services of this daycare.

“We are just thrilled to have received this grant. It was a massive injection to our finances which enabled us to finish all the needed shade area in the playground.”
