Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan is pleased part of the planned improvements to the Newell Highway fall within the Northern Tablelands electorate.
The Newell Highway North of Moree at Tackinbri will now receive a $6.35 million upgrade to improve safety.
Road reconstruction, surface improvements and a wider centreline will be included in the work on the stretch of highway at Tackinbri creek, 76kms north of Moree.
Mr Moylan has been advocating for the NSW Government to put serious money into the region’s roads since being elected in mid-2024.
“The Newell Highway is the longest highway in NSW and supports the movement of tourists, locals and hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of freight,” Mr Moylan said.
“It is crucial to make sure it is safe, durable, and able to withstand constant traffic and all types of vehicles.
“Over the past year, adverse weather conditions and increased transport demands have added to the significant deterioration in road conditions, highlighting the urgent need for upgrades.
“Improving these major regional routes should be a priority and there are many other roads across the region which are in poor condition but equally as important.
“I am committed to continue pushing the NSW Government for more investment into roads, including Council roads across the Northern Tablelands.”
