GLEN INNES JOCKEY CLUB CHEERS A SECOND RACE DAY PAST THE POST

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has congratulated the hard working committee of Glen Innes Jockey Club following confirmation from Racing NSW Country it has secured an additional race day.

Mr Moylan said the club have been working toward adding to the single race day in January, to secure a second race meeting to coincide with the 2027 Celtic Festival – the Celtic Cup.

“Irish eyes will be smiling on Celtic Cup Day in Glen Innes next year, with news the racecourse will host a second race meeting on its calendar for 2027, coinciding with the Celtic Festival,” Mr Moylan said.

“The annual Glen Innes Cup meeting in January is already an iconic event, drawing thousands to the racetrack in what is a yearly pilgrimage for many,” Mr Moylan said.

“This is fantastic news for Glen Innes and the wider region, and will build on the popularity of the Celtic Festival which attracts legions of visitors to Celtic Country each year.

“I congratulate the Glen Innes Jockey Club president, Rob Banham, who alongside his committee have the vision to grow the club’s events and profile in country racing.

“This is a terrific achievement for Rob and his team and I can’t wait to join them trackside on Thursday 29 April, 2027.”

The Glen Innes Jockey Club hosted the first race meeting on 26 January 1875 after forming in 1857. The track is widely regarded as the best in the north.

Racing NSW Country has confirmed the Celtic Cup Race Day as a full TAB meeting, with a seven-race program, contributing a total of $195,000 prizemoney. The event has been approved for one year, with the success of the event determining future race days.
