Funding flows in for field improvements

Field maintenance at Glen Innes Rugby Park will soon be a lot easier with the Elks securing $108,000 in funding for an irrigation system.

The funding was awarded to the club through the NSW Rugby World Cup Legacy program which is aimed at increasing inclusion and participation through improving infrastructure and facilities.

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan supported the club’s application.

“The Glen Innes Elks are a small but proud rugby union club with a strong supporter base and hardworking volunteers,” Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan said.

“The Elks’ home ground suffers a large amount of wear and tear throughout the winter months and the club’s volunteers work around the clock to try and maintain it to a suitable playing standard.

“The club applied for funding to install a permanent watering system and tanks for more efficient upkeep.

“I am pleased to deliver this funding to the Elks and look forward to seeing more success on the improved field in the future.”

Elks president Steve Daley was over the moon to receive the funding. He said the setup will see a pop-up sprinkler system put around the field and tanks installed to ensure a self-sufficient setup.

“At the moment, it a is tedious effort to water the field; people have to volunteer their time to water the field and it is time consuming,” he said.

“This will be a press of the button and we will be able to put water on when needed which will improve the playing surface in coming years.

“Being a little club, it is hard to get in front financially, so this is a big boost for us.”
