Coalition government to reinstate popular regional seniors travel card

Wednesday, 17 June 2026

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan announced ONLY the NSW Nationals will bring back the Regional Seniors Travel Card if successful at the 2027 election.

The Regional Seniors Travel Card will provide eligible seniors in regional NSW with a $250 prepaid card for fuel, taxis, and pre-booked train or coach tickets.

Mr Moylan said Labor cut the Regional Seniors Travel Card in 2023 despite our petition to save it receiving more than 22,000 signatures.

“We live in an incredible part of the world, but there is no doubt the distance and isolation are a challenge, especially for our seniors,” Mr Moylan said.

“From 2020 to the axing of the program under the Minns Labor Government, 54,197 seniors across the Northern Tablelands used the card to the value of $7,342,825.40.

“Seniors across my electorate voiced serious concerns about the termination of the card and my predecessor, the Hon. Adam Marshall, fought very hard to continue the Regional Seniors Travel Card.

“He took a petition with 10,000 signatures calling for the reinstatement of the card to Parliament but again the Labor Government failed to listen to the people of regional NSW.”

NSW Nationals Leader and Shadow Minister for Regional NSW Gurmesh Singh said seniors living in the regions have fewer transport options than those in the city and deserve support to get to medical appointments, groceries, or connect with friends and family.

Shadow Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said Labor’s scare campaign against the card will not be tolerated.

“This card is all about making daily life easier by helping ease the cost of living for regional seniors,” Mr Toole said.
