Every year the St Kilda Fishing Club Armidale makes an effort to restock the waterways they use for their events and that task has just become a lot easier with a state government grant of $4000 secured to replenish Australian Bass.
The grant was secured through the Community Native Fish Stocking Australian Bass program which sees two dollars in funds for every one dollar raised by the community to stock native fish in public waters to enhance local fishing.
The $4000 awarded to the St Kilda Fishing Club will go towards stocking Gara Dam and Malpas Dam.
Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan said the restocking program will not only benefit the club, but the wider community.
“The New England region is renowned for its fishing, so it’s important that we ensure our fishing stocks are healthy and regularly replenished,” he said.
“Well done to the club for taking the steps to raise their own funds and then receiving an additional grant through the CNFS Australian Bass Program.”
St Kilda Fishing Club president Paddy Rice welcomed the funding.
“Our club has been around since 1970,” he said.
“We always do our best to restock our local dams and waterways and this grant will allow us to continue that tradition.”
