Work finally begins on Glen Innes Hospital redevelopment

Work finally begins on Glen Innes Hospital redevelopment

Thursday, 7 May 2026

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has welcomed news that construction has finally started on the Glen Innes Hospital redevelopment.

The $50 million redevelopment was announced by the former Coalition Government in 2021 but progress stalled under the Minns Labor Government.

Work was then slated to begin in 2025 but it was again delayed.

Mr Moylan has been calling for construction to start since entering Parliament and put forward a Notice of Motion to the Parliament in 2025 requesting the government get on with the job.

Mr Moylan wasn’t invited by the Minns Labor Government to the sod turn at Glen Innes, or the recent hospital sod turn at Moree, despite both projects being announced and funded by a Liberal-Nationals Government.

He said if fighting for better healthcare and holding the Health Minister to account means missing out on ceremonial sod turns, that’s a price worth paying.

“The Glen Innes community has been very patient waiting for the Minns Labor Government to start the redevelopment of the hospital,” Mr Moylan said.

“It is great to finally see the project swing into gear so the dedicated healthcare staff and the wider community can look forward to having high quality facilities on their doorstep rather than having to travel hundreds of kilometres to receive necessary care.

“The project will see a broad range of additions including a new acute services building, a new emergency department, medical imaging, ambulance bays and a new main entry, along with upgrades to the operating theatre and the birthing suite.

“Construction is expected to be completed in 2028.

“Then we will need to make sure it is staffed properly.”

The hospital will continue to operate as normal with a temporary access road being built to support construction.
