The task of hosting the region’s top tennis talent just became a lot easier for Armidale Tennis Club with the arrival of a brand-new industrial roller thanks to a grant through the Community Building Partnership program.
The club received $23,797 in funding to purchase the new equipment which will simplify maintenance to the club’s eight clay courts.
Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan visited the club to unveil the fresh purchase.
“Armidale Tennis Club has a long history of hosting both social players and large-scale regional tennis tournaments,” he said.
“With more than 200 members who use the facilities, there’s no doubt maintaining the courts is a big task, so having access to an industrial roller will make that job a lot easier for the club’s volunteers.
“It also means the club will be able to continue to provide a top-notch facility for its membership base, the local community and the wider region during the competitive tennis season.
“Well done to the club’s committee for securing the funding from the Community Building Partnership program and then purchasing the roller.”
Armidale Tennis Club secretary Ann Gibbs said the improvement to the clay courts will allow more tournaments to be hosted locally, as well as benefit training programs.
“The Armidale economy will benefit from the additional players and families coming to Armidale to play in the tournaments,” she said.
“Younger players will be able master skills on a clay surface, and it will increase capacity for afternoon and evening tennis, which is popular with families.
“The club has recently commenced the Rally4Ever programme which is a statewide programme to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of our community through tennis and social connection.
“The numbers attending this session on a Friday evening are increasing with players of all abilities and nationalities.”
