Media Release: Round the clock access to health and fitness

Wednesday, 3 September 2025

Accessing PCYC Moree’s gym just became a lot easier with Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan delivering a Community Building Partnership grant for the club to install a 24-hour fob system.

The $13,172 grant will allow members to use the gym area at any hour of the day, making it more accessible for shift workers and parents.

Mr Moylan said the gym is a popular place for people of all ages to reach their health and fitness goals.

“The PCYC’s gym is used by a wide variety of community members but it is currently only operational six working days per week, including four hours on Saturdays, which limits a lot of people,” he said.

“Having access to a 24-hour gym will give young people, parents, and older community members more flexibility so they can stay active outside of business hours.

“It will be excellent for the Moree community to have access to another all-hours gym.”

PCYC Moree’s club manager Tayla Macey thanked Mr Moylan for supporting their Community Building Partnership application and said it will ensure the facility can continue being a hub for fitness and recreation.

“The PCYC Moree gym benefits a wide range of community members. Young people use it to build fitness, confidence, and positive routines. Adults and parents use it to improve health and wellbeing, while older adults stay active and connected. Local athletes and school groups use the space to train and develop skills,” she said.

“The funding allows us to keep membership and program prices reasonable which ensures the gym remains accessible to everyone, allowing young people, families, and older adults to engage regularly while removing financial barriers to health, fitness, and recreation.

“In recent months, we’ve seen a slight drop in participation numbers at the PCYC Moree gym. The funding will help us reverse this trend.

“The gym also provides a safe, supportive environment where the community can come together and focus on health, fitness, and social connection.”
