Users of the Ron Harborne Oval Precinct will now have access to life-saving defibrillators thanks to a $2700 grant, Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan announced today.
The grant is part of the Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program, aimed at providing funds for clubs around recreation facilities around NSW to purchase Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
Mr Moylan met with representatives from Moree Plains Shire Council to deliver the funding to purchase a defibrillator in the event of an emergency.
“Ron Harborne Oval is home to numerous sports clubs and events from across the Moree Plains Shire,” Mr Moylan said.
“The funding means anyone using the Oval will have access to one of these devices at any given time.
“We know cardiac arrest can affect anyone at any given time.
“A person’s chance of survival can double, or even triple, if a defibrillator is used in conjunction with CPR immediately following cardiac arrest, prior to paramedics arriving.
“It is fantastic these devices will now be installed and available, should they be needed.”
The Ron Harborne Oval precinct will serve a large portion of the community including families, individuals, and sports clubs.
Moree Plains Shire Asset Manager Buildings and Civil Ned Mozzell said having a defibrillator available could potentially benefit everyone.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity of this grant funding that will allow Moree Plains Shire Council to purchase a defibrillator for the Ron Harborne Oval precinct,” he said.
“This investment in safety will provide peace of mind for our community and ensure that we have the necessary equipment to respond to a medical emergency.”
New Moree Plains Shire Mayor Susannah Pearse was equally as thankful.
“Thank you to Mr Moylan and the NSW Government for this important investment in the health and safety of our community,” she said.
“Ron Harborne Sporting Precinct is used by thousands of community members and visitors per year and this defibrillator will provide some comfort that emergencies can be responded to promptly. ”
Applications for the 2024-2025 State Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator program are now open and can be made through the NSW Office of Sport’s website.
“I encourage all sports and recreation to put forward applications for funding to purchase one of these life-saving devices,” Mr Moylan said.
