Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has hit out at the NSW and Federal Governments with $14.1 million of funding revoked from the Northern Tablelands.
Mr Moylan has been advised $8,721,095 and $5,410,000 million in promised funding to Glen Innes Severn Council and Armidale Regional Council for their Rail Trail project has been withdrawn.
“I have been pushing for more funding so it is incredibly disappointing to hear there will be cuts made to the Northern Tablelands,” Mr Moylan said.
“Without funding we won’t have the ability to complete projects, improve facilities and upgrade equipment which are so important to regional areas.
“Whether you were for or against the Rail Trail, the reality is Mr Minns and Mr Albanese have taken approximately $14.1 million out of our region.
“But rest assured, I will continue to fight hard for funding in the region.”
Mr Moylan has called on the Federal and State Governments to ensure the funding will remain in the Glen Innes and Armidale local government areas for other projects.
Both amounts of funding were awarded in 2021.
They were delivered by the NSW Reconstruction Authority’s bushfire recovery response.
The $5.4 million awarded to Armidale Regional Council was from the 2019-20 Black Summer Bushfires Fund while the $8.7m was from the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund.
The response program is co-funded by the Australian and NSW Governments.
