In the lead up to the Minns Government handing down the NSW Budget, Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan is pleading for more funding for the regions, noting that once again the majority of funding is going to Western Sydney.
The NSW east coast flood event saw traffic redirected inland, and highways and local roads deteriorated to a pothole-ridden mess, and yet, adequate funding to make our roads safe has still not arrived.
One month on, motorists are still navigating torn up parts of the New England Highway with many people reporting blown tyres and damage to vehicles.
Mr Moylan is calling on the Government to put serious money into our regional roads in the upcoming budget.
“The NSW Government is forking out millions of dollars into road infrastructure in western Sydney, yet our hard-working Northern Tablelands residents are being treated like second-class citizens,” he said.
“It is not good enough.
“Our roads are in complete disarray and the recent wet weather has only highlighted the problem.
“If the roads in Western Sydney were this much of a mess, I guarantee they would have already been fixed.
“There has been some crews and funding allocated to repair damage but, so far, that has made little difference.
“It is time the Premier showed some leadership and started investing money back into our region and the upcoming budget would be a good start.
“Our community deserves better than putting up with roads which are dangerous.”
