Media Release: Future looks bright at Inverell Sporting Complex

Tuesday, 29 April 2025

The Inverell Sporting Complex is home to many of the town’s sports clubs and now they will shine even brighter with a $73,349 grant to upgrade the facility’s lighting.

The funding was awarded to Inverell Shire Council from the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants program. The grounds are currently used for a range of different sports with hundreds setting foot on the fields every week.

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan joined Inverell mayor Kate Dight to announce the funding and said the new 100 lux lights will be competition standard which will bolster participation.

“Sport is a huge part of regional communities so providing more opportunities to take the field across a range of sports is incredibly important to Inverell and the wider region,” he said.

“Upgraded lighting at the Inverell Sporting Complex will extend the hours of use which creates more opportunities for local and regional sports to host events and competitions at the grounds. It is great news for Inverell Shire Council, local sporting groups, schools and community organisations.”

Inverell mayor Kate Dight said approximately 700 participants use the complex every week but anticipates that number will increase to 1000 once the lights are installed.

“The upgraded lighting will enable extended use of the sports complex, creating more opportunities for individuals and groups to engage in recreational activities, training, and competitions,” she said.

“This contributes to a healthier and more active community, while encouraging social connections across diverse age groups, backgrounds, and abilities.

“Additionally, the project supports the hosting of regional events, attracting visitors to Inverell and showcasing the town as a modern, sporting destination.

“By investing in modern, energy efficient lighting technology, the project seeks to enhance the usability, safety, and overall experience of the complex, transforming it into a premier venue for sport and community engagement.”

The installation of the lights is anticipated to be completed by November 2025.
