Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has applauded Armidale Regional Council’s inaugural Creative Streets Festival after the opening night transformed the centre of town to a vibrant hub.

The festival was brought to life with $345,000 secured from the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program.

The community got behind the event with at least 5000 people turned up for the opening night last Friday which saw the region’s arts and cultural scene celebrated with lights, colour and entertainment.

“It was fantastic to see the Creative Streets Festival’s opening night so well supported by both locals and visitors to Armidale,” Mr Moylan said.

“Marsh Street was buzzing with local art, theatre, workshops, music, dance, fire twirling acrobatics and food showcased from one end to the other.

“No doubt the wider community benefitted. All the motels were booked out with so many people coming to town to experience this event.

“It is great to see the Creative Streets Festival get off the ground in a regional centre like Armidale and I would like to congratulate Armidale Regional Council for putting it together.

“The Creative Streets Festival is being funded for the next three years which is a huge win for the entire community.”

Armidale mayor Sam Coupland was equally as rapt and thanked the community for supporting this new event.

“Watching Marsh Street fill with families, artists, and visitors was a powerful moment,” he said.

“For one weekend, our main street became a stage for connection.

“Proof that when we make space for creativity, people show up.”

“Creative Streets wasn’t just a cultural success; it was an economic win.

“Local restaurants, pubs, and accommodation providers saw a surge in activity, showing how the arts can drive real outcomes for our region.”

“This year’s Creative Streets Festival showed what Armidale can achieve when we invest in ideas and invite the community to take part.

“It was a celebration of who we are. Creative, welcoming, and ready to grow.”

The Creative Streets Festival will run until 9 November with the artwork remaining on display for the public to enjoy.
